‘Reconfigured Mend 2 & Counterpart Bookwork’ ::: GB 2025

The counterpart bookwork relates directly to the reconfigured plate and its additional grey design. This was applied to the broken plate using a constructed paper mask / template with apertures cut out of it.

The painted design was applied to the plate with all of its shard pieces temporally taped together to make it whole in its original configuration.

After the grey aperture design was applied, the shard pieces were then reconfigured and fixed reconstructed into its present sculptural state.

The paper mask / template with its residue of grey paint was then further worked into a book context using more surface paint and page folding book making methodologies.

The mask / template became appropriated as book making page material. It was intuitively subsumed, cut, constructed, sewn and contained, becoming a book. A single hardback cover and a folio endpaper were then added to effectively bind its pages.

The book then became kinetic, it opens out and closes and is linked to the plate in a concrete kind of way, like a poem. The two elements of the work are also inextricably linked by their shared making processes and context.
