A Domestic Room, Site Based Work: A series of books presenting non-linear narrative layouts of image and text that trace a tactile spatial intervention. Starting point quotes from Gaston Bachelard’s ‘The Poetics of Space’ & ‘The Poetics of Reverie’ as well as Fernando Pessoa’s ‘The Book of Disquiet’
‘Back Room Sounding’ Film Still (GB 2011)
‘Back Room Sounding’ is a 20 minute counterpart film made in 2011, to accompany a series of artists’ book works of the same title. These open out to create freestanding structural, architectural forms suggestive of corners, grills, roofs and partitions. The film and the printed book pages, deliver slow motion pans and snatches of interior spaces, as well as snippets of warped and hallucinatory texts. These include Gaston Bachelard’s ‘The Poetics of Space’ and ‘The Poetics of Reverie’ and Fernando Pessoa’s ‘The Book of Disquiet’. The film is shot in a domestic room environment, with a focus on an immersive engagement with the space, texts and a tactile reverie.
